The theory behind chiropractic treatment is that disease may be caused by disturbances within the relationship between the spinal column and nervous system. Before beginning treatment your chiropractor will do a full medical history, taking into account any external factors which may be contributing to the problem. Diagnosis is made by examining the affected area – usually the spine – and testing muscle movement range and flexibility. Depending on the area affected a combination of manipulative techniques – including spinal readjustment, soft tissue massage and particular functioning – will be used to realign the spinal column.
